MOVIE REVIEW | Looking (2014)

Looking, HBO Series 2014 2016

What's great about "Looking" is how it shows gay life in San Francisco in a relatable way. It covers different ethnicities and groups within the gay community, making it both fun to watch and informative. It talks about things like sexual roles and relationships in a positive light, and even touches on HIV awareness without getting too heavy. It's important to talk about stuff like HIV prevention and treatment, especially with how many cases there are worldwide.

I also appreciate how the show talks about sexual preferences openly. It sends a clear message that there's no shame in being a bottom or liking whatever you like in bed. Nowadays, with social media stereotypes, it's easy to feel pressured to fit in. But bottom shaming shouldn't have a place in our society.

Now, about the characters. Let's talk about Patrick. He's a bit of a problem himself, to be honest. He's scared of everything and doesn't want to put in the work for a relationship, especially with Kevin. It's frustrating because you can't expect a relationship to work if you're not willing to adjust. And it's pretty obvious he's still hung up on Richie, which isn't fair to Kevin at all.

Kevin deserves better. He gave up a lot for Patrick, only for Patrick to freak out over a Grindr profile. Seriously, moving in with someone and then bailing because of a dating app? That's messed up. Patrick needs to get his priorities straight.

The other characters are cool too, especially Doris. She brings so much humor and honesty to the show. Even at her dad's funeral, she's cracking jokes. She's refreshingly blunt and keeps things real, which is exactly what the show needs.

"Looking" was on HBO from 2014 to 2016, but sadly it got canceled due to low ratings, despite being praised by critics.
