When it comes to talking hoops, you can't skip over UAAP men's basketball. It's like the go-to college league for spotting some seriously talented ballers. Even though it's just eight big universities in the mix, UAAP stays winning as the most talked-about collegiate league. And in 2023, the UAAP basketball action didn't disappoint, especially for fans enjoying the eye candy – we got to see some seriously hot dudes in their prime. Let's check out who owned the court and made it to the top of the list this year.
10. Jack Dumont - UE
Yo, meet Jack – he's the OG among the new faces on the Red Warriors' squad, standing tall at 6-foot-2, repping Vancouver, Canada. At 22, he's got the green light to ball out for the next two years, starting in UAAP Season 86. Jack's the real deal on the court, rocking it as a 2-3 shooter and slasher. Plus, he's got that killer basketball IQ that's got everyone talking. Watch out for this dude – he's about to bring some serious game.
9. John Galinato - NU
Rolling into his 4th year as a Financial Management major in BSBA, John's vibing hard with his choice of NU as his school. He's all about the love and backing he gets from the management and the crew, especially when it comes to student-athletes.
8. Eli Ramos - ADU
In his debut UAAP seniors' showdown against his old squad Ateneo, Eli Ramos straight-up brought the heat for Adamson. In a nail-biting overtime win, he dropped a solid 12 points, dished out three assists, grabbed two boards, and snagged two steals – talk about a highlight reel.
7. Earl Abadam - DLSU
Earl is dead set on pursuing a basketball career at just 19. In 2021, he was dubbed one of the "brightest Pinoy prospects in Australia," and he's been hustling in the Philippines since before hitting legal age, aiming for a bright future for his fam.
6. Rey Remogat - UE
While his buddies were getting scouted heavy for Recto, this newbie just walked in, throwing his hat in the ring to see what he's made of. Putting in the grind, this Cavite homie earned his stripes on the Red Warriors squad. It's just a countdown until this dude breaks out.
5. Mason Amos - Ateneo
They were all expecting Mason Amos to be one of the Ateneo Blue Eagles' heavy hitters in UAAP Season 86 Men's Basketball Tournament. After tearing it up with Gilas Pilipinas, it was pretty clear that Amos was about to bring some serious game to Ateneo's title defense this year. Watch out for this dude making moves on the court!
4. Francis Escandor - DLSU
Man, check this out – last year, Francis Escandor was barely getting three matches in, and now he's out here dropping bombs in a clutch Game Two of the UAAP Season 86 men's basketball finals for La Salle. This cat's gone from the sidelines to potentially being the team's game-changer. When La Salle's title dreams were hanging in the balance, Escandor, who's about to graduate, flipped the script on 'saving the best for last.' He straight-up owned it, shooting 5-of-7 (with a crazy 4-of-5 from beyond the arc) in that 82-60 beatdown against the UP Maroons. Talk about a glow-up!
3. Harold Alarcon - UP
Harold Alarcon was the man for UP, dropping 21 points, two rebounds, and two assists. But hold up, even after they straight-up dominated, the Fighting Maroons are already gearing up for Game 3. They ain't sleeping on the prep game!
2. Kai Ballungay - Ateneo
Kai Ballungay's bouncing from the Ateneo Blue Eagles come 2024. Homie dropped the news on Monday, December 4, saying he's leveling up to the pros. After rocking the Blue Eagles' colors for a solid two UAAP seasons, he's saying peace out to Ateneo.
1. CJ Cansino - UP
This UP captain just wrapped up his fifth and final college season, leveling up his skills. He might not be pulling the same flashy moves slicing through the paint like back in UST, but now, Cansino's bringing the heat from downtown, hitting a solid 37% from beyond the arc playing for UP.
