JOURNAL | Adulthood Is A Time of Value Change

You're in your late 30s and it used to be OK. But one day it hits you that you no longer feel the same way as when you were 25. The things you enjoy and get excited about suddenly loses their thrill and you just can't muster enough energy to sustain your effort pretending that you like it.

Am I entering the what so-called "life begins at 40?" In a nutshell, loosely quoting Meryl Streep "when you become 40, you do not give a shit".

It's hard to accept but I guess that's how life is. Everything feels so temporal and quick that even you somehow force yourself to think that you'll always gonna be the same and the feelings will remain the same you still wake up one day and feel that you are a completely changed person. No bargaining. It's a done deal.

A lot of things, events and people do not spark joy anymore. You are looking for more meaningful connections and if you do not see this in something that catches your attention, it's so easy for you to move on to the next like that guy in the corn field being too picky with the perfect corn he ended up with nothing.

I laugh when I think about this. But I call this standard, and I will not settle. I mean come on, it's true but we refuse to accept it because it does not serve us. We also cannot bring ourselves to give up the things that used to make us happy. It's like taking away a toy that no longer stir the same emotions. It's that old toy displayed in the room but we do not play with anymore.

And though this is hard, I have faith in the universe. We will always find the kind of people that we think we deserve. It's all about sending that energy. Vibrating that energy.

Adulthood is a time of value change. But our values should not go low just because it's not easy. The biggest wins are won in difficult challenges.
