Olympics 2018, Men's Figure Skating

It is the Winter Olympics 2018 held in Pyeongchang, South Korea. And this year remains to be another competitive season, as we see in the mix fan favorites like Yuzuru Hanyu (Japan) and Javier Fernandez (Spain). Equally deserving of a spotlight this year are fairly new and strong contenders like Nathan Chen (USA) and Shoma Uno (Japan). And of course, Patrick Chan (Canada) will give the men's event more excitement. Still on the running is Jin Boyang (China) whose had a spectacular season as well after finishing bronze in World Figure Skating in 2017.

To be honest, this is still anybody's game. One cannot fully predict how things are going to turn out. Yuzuru is gunning for a back to back Olympic gold finish, but the guy was recently injured after attempting to execute Quad lutz in one of his recent trainings. Javier on the other hand, has had a brilliant run with his skating career. Patrick won silver in the last 2014 Olympics. Nathan is the first male skater to land a whooping five quads in a program (how does he even do that, I am at a loss). Shoma Uno is not far behind, and if this lad gives a clean skate then he's destined for a spot in the podium. Jin Boyang has been inconsistently placing in the podium but may not hold candles to Yuzuru and Javier, so we keep him to the last.

The Team Event has recently concluded and the results are: FIRST - Canada, SECOND - Russia, THIRD - USA. This is the most awaited gold finish for Patrick Chan who did the men's free skating. Chan has never won gold in the Olympics.

And  the results of the Short Program is out. As expected, Yuzuru lords the ice rink followed by Javier and Shoma. Sadly, Nathan Chen ended up at 17th spot. It would take a miracle for him to even get to top 5.

And to conclude the Men's Figure Skating, below is the final results combined short program and free skate. Yuzuru leads the pack and way ahead of fellow Japanese Shoma Uno by 11 points. They say that if Nathan Chen did not screw up his SP, then he could have beaten Yuzuru. I highly doubt that. I mean Nathan is definitely talented but he cracks up from pressure and had he not tumbled on his SP, I'm sure he's bound to flop on his Free Skate. But like what I said, Nathan is young and the future is way ahead of him. Kid's got potential for the next Olympics.
