The Martian (2015)
What I did find really gratifying in the movie is the light treatment. The narrative does not overcomplicate the human struggle to be left alone in a foreign land. As with the case of "Cast Away", the audience is given a chance to witness how the lone character would manage to survive. And he did survive. It was entertaining at the same time because there were songs culled from pop culture which is so easy to relate to. That strategy is so brilliant it works in movies like "Guardians of the Galaxy" & "X-Men: Days of Future Past".
I love this film.. quite predictable because you want it to be predictable (it HAD to be).. because you become the character.. the ending was so hearrt pumping I was biting my finger to restrain myself from shouting. And the Gloria Estefan song somewhere.. haha, made it really interesting. I'll give it a good fighting chance against "The Revenant"..
Matt Damon as compared to his almost similar role in Interstellar, there is a striking similarity. That although Matt was a villain in Interstellar, and now he's the good botanist in The Martian, the acting was not a force to reckon. In fact, it would be easy to confuse anyone which movie he played in. So I'm not really surprised that he was not nominated for best actor.
