MOVIE | Leonardo DiCaprio's Acceptance Speech at 88th Academy Awards for Best Actor

Leonardo DiCaprio's Acceptance Speech at 88th Academy Awards for Best Actor

Thank you all so very much. Thank you to the Academy, thank you to all of you in this room. I have to congratulate the other incredible nominees this year. 'The Revenant’ was the product of the tireless efforts of an unbelievable cast and crew. First off, to my brother in this endeavor, Mr. Tom Hardy. Tom, your talent on screen can only be surpassed by your friendship off screen… thank you for creating a transcendent cinematic experience. Thank you to everybody at Fox and New Regency…my entire team. I have to thank everyone from the very onset of my career… To my parents, none of this would be possible without you. And to my friends, I love you dearly, you know who you are.

MOVIE | Finally Won An Oscar, the Leonardo DiCaprio Style

Finally Won An Oscar, the Leonardo DiCaprio Style

So minutes after the announcement that Leo has won it, the Internet was peppered with a lot of funny memes. I do feel that Oscars 2016 has been staged solely for Leo (but that's a very personal and biased judgment), but then again a lot of people are really ecstatic for this much deserved win.

JOURNAL | Discourses on Manny Pacquiao's Controversial Statement : A Compendium Culled from Facebook

Discourses on Manny Pacquiao's Controversial Statement : A Compendium Culled from Facebook

Manny Pacquiao, a deeply religious man with strong convictions, is entitled to think whatever he wants. And whether you like to hear it or not, he’s entitled to say whatever he thinks. It doesn’t matter that his athletic talent has given him a louder microphone than everyone else... Nike, for its part, is allowed to make value judgments based on those views... when an athlete like Pacquiao decides to thrust polarizing opinions into the public sphere, it presents a new set of circumstances...

Karen Davila of DZMM interviews Manny Pacquiao

In the continuing saga of Manny Pacquiao digging his grave deeper by the day, Karen Davila from a popular AM radio station DZMM has interviewed Manny and grilled him on several issues including same sex marriage and anti-discrimination bill. A good point raised by Karen was the separation of the State and Church, which Manny brushed off saying that at this time, a government cannot run properly without the guidance of the Lord.

If you are a person of some stature, you are automatically an opinion maker. Anything that will come out of your mouth will reflect your personality. Positive or negative, these statements create a lingering feeling to everyone who hears it.

MOVIE REVIEW | Bridge of Spies (2015)

Bridge of Spies (2015)

Just done watching "Bridge of Spies" and boy, I never thought that the US-Russo Cold War was so severe back then, Americans and Russians were so sensitive about issues of espionage. This Steven Spielberg movie was such an eye opener. I also like how it touched on the German Democratic Republic (GDR), the mounting of the Berlin Wall and the Euro-Russo relationship.

MOVIE REVIEW | Brooklyn (2015)

Brooklyn (2015)

Did I like the film? I'd say yes, but it would have been more compelling as an Oscars nominee if it had a different ending rather than the lead actors having a happy ending. Because in real life, there is no happy ending.

JOURNAL | Valentines For Singles

Valentines For Singles

Today is Valentine's Day.

Not that I am celebrating, but despite being single; I do have more reasons than one to be grateful today. After all, this day is all about love and that love encompasses everything. Love for a special someone is not limited to boyfriends/girlfriends or husbands/wives (or mistresses for that matter). More than that, you have your family, your friends and most importantly yourself.

MOVIE REVIEW | Oscars Best Picture In The Last 10 Years

Oscars Best Picture In The Last 10 Years

All right, I'm supposed to be heading outside now. But my guts just told me to put up this entry. True, Academy Awards does not contribute much to improving the lives of people, let's say of Africa nor does it solve wars in the gulf region.

MOVIE REVIEW | Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

This movie is one action packed stuff... but behind the gory scenes, I can't help but apply a Feminist reading especially at the end when 'redemption' comes at the turn of tables whereby the mothers have now full control of the water. Does it make a strong feminist message? Not so. Because it was still Max who saved the day.

MOVIE REVIEW | The Martian (2015)

The Martian (2015)

What I did find really gratifying in the movie is the light treatment. The narrative does not overcomplicate the human struggle to be left alone in a foreign land. As with the case of "Cast Away", the audience is given a chance to witness how the lone character would manage to survive. And he did survive. It was entertaining at the same time because there were songs culled from pop culture which is so easy to relate to. That strategy is so brilliant it works in movies like "Guardians of the Galaxy" & "X-Men: Days of Future Past".

MOVIE REVIEW | The Big Short (2015)

The Big Short (2015)

In the beginning, you'll wonder how come this movie has been nominated for best picture. To be honest, I thought I would fall asleep. The development of the story was really a challenge since it deals with highly technical mortgaging issues. To an average viewer, it was difficult to follow the narrative and how the link among the main characters are connected. The voice over narration did help a little but it was really confusing at the start.

Photos of Old Lucena

Lucena City has a rich history that is probably not passed down to the younger generations. During my younger years, I was never concerned about my birth place. It was always there anyway so I didn't really bother.
