MOVIE REVIEW | The Purge 3: Election Year

The Purge 3: Election Year

Not having seen the previous two movies e.g. The Purge 1 & 2, I absolutely had no idea what this movie was all about. Hence, there was the element of surprise during the whole time. However, the surprise factor was due to the gore and bloody scenes in the film. Without the violence, I am not so sure if the movie will stand out. In effect, I felt like I was watching Saw-Chainsaw Massacre-The Green Inferno sort of movie.

MOVIE REVIEW | The Girl On The Train (2016)

The Girl On The Train (2016)

In general, the movie is dragging/boring and does not have much tension among the characters. The only salvation of the film was Emily Blunt's acting and the last gory 10 minutes where the revelations started to come out. Overall, this review does not recommend this movie.

MOVIE REVIEW | The Intern (2015)

The Intern (2015)

I had high hopes for the film thinking that Anne Hathaway would pull up another Les Miserables sort of acting slash Devil Wears Prada; plus Robert De Niro has some filmography on his sleeves. However, I was disappointed. The film unfortunately was not able to deliver. Just couldn't.

Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)

Not your typical chick flick. Although funny and romantic in surface, the movie touches on sensitive topics that in 1961 (and perhaps until now) would have been taboo and difficult to discuss.

MOVIE REVIEW | Sully

Tom Hanks in Sully

Sully

There are only a few movies that engage the audience and make them feel like they are part of what's going on. "Sully" is one of those brilliantly crafted works that plays with the audience and make them believe that what is going on can easily happen to them.

Rating: 8.5 / 10
Worth the time and money, so you go watch it on the cinema.

Really enjoyed the movie and it was worth watching it over at Imax, with all the big screen and surrounding sound; one can easily feel that he's really inside that plane. To be honest, I think I was bracing myself half the time because I felt like I was part of the movie- not an audience, but an actual passenger waiting for my eventual demise.

MOVIE | The Secret Life of Pets

The Secret Life of Pets

There's so much cuteness in the film, but that did not salvage the narrative which is to say- there isn't much meat to begin with. In an attempt to showcase the adorableness of the cutesy characters, the film makers failed to give them a credible struggle that any audience could relate to. It was in a way, a little shameful; only because the audience was trying to bear with the story progression only to be left with the same plot in any predictable story.

Joseph Schooling of Singapore Beats Michael Phelps of US in 100m Butterfly

Why is it a big deal? Because Michael Phelps is considered as the best swimmer in all of the Olympic history; so it is only understandable that the whole sports fandom got shocked when an Asian schooled them (pun intended) on how to swim. And you'll see that the time gap is quite a figure coz every nano second counts in swimming.

JOURNAL | How to Answer Immigration Questions at the Airport

How to Answer Immigration Questions at the Airport

How to Answer Immigration Questions at the Airport

Rise and shine, it's 4am and my flight's leaving at 12noon. It's supposed to be a quiet Wednesday for me, but today marks the new chapter in my career; I'm leaving for XXX, for certain.

29 June 2016. Wednesday

But my luggage are not yet completely ready, and to think that I need to travel for six hours to get to the international airport. For a moment, I thought I might miss the flight. But now's not the right to entertain evil thoughts. Just keep positive.

There are a few dilemmas in my packing issue, and mainly because my luggage is not big enough I had to be really practical; and by that I mean only taking those that I would need to survive in say, a month. Not many articles of clothing, left behind books I just bought (I can't afford extra weight), some of my pertinent documents with me and voila, I'm ready to hit the road.

It was still dark outside. My mother is up, making sure I'm all good to go. This time, they won't be accompanying me to the airport. Partly because I prefer to leave with not much emotional stress; I'll miss my family, I'll miss home. But giving in to these thoughts would make leaving more painful. I'm leaving for a good reason, and that's enough to be away for a few years.

At the gate, I hugged my mom. Told her to take care of herself and always be strong. My dad, he took me to the bus station and carried my luggage. It was drizzling, but I didn't mind getting drenched. After all, it was the last time I would get wet in this land.

It was still dark outside. When dad and I reached the bus station, he stood a few meters away from where I was. I didn't come to him. I knew he needed space. I knew he had to deal with something I wouldn't know. He's my father after all, and me leaving is a sad reality we had to deal with.

The bus came. Father said his goodbye. I hugged him too and told him to take care. A few minutes later, I'm inside the bus waiting to reach my destination. Still unsure about the mixed emotions. I dozed off.

And watch this movie at the cinema. Promise, it's worth the money!

Today was no exception, and I got myself some cool French books.

Early Parent-Child Bonds, Key To Good Adult Relationships

Key Terms: parent-child bond, behavior, child rearing, divorce, domestic discord, online therapy

This research reveals that early parent-child bond has significant albeit non-conclusive impact to good adult relationships. Specifically, attachment between the mother and child during the early stages of life can influence a child's behavior indicating that infants who are securely attached to their mothers or caregivers tend to learn to trust and count on to the adult, and later becomes independent when they reach toddler ages.

Thoughts Running Through My Mind On a Thursday Evening

Sometimes I also ask what kind of blogger am I? Certainly not a travel blogger since I do not travel very often. Not also food blogger because I'm not fond of eating. Not even fitness nor movies... of course I do touch a little bit of this and that, but I can't really say which kind I am. I've been reading a lot online that successful blogs should have a focus. But perhaps that's exactly what I am- a no-focus blogger, if there is such a thing. It's just that everything is too general, and I find it challenging to center my posts into one topic.

To be blunt, HR professionals do more than hiring. In fact, hiring is only one part of his responsibilities. And if the staff are the backbone of a company, then HR professionals are the people behind the construction of this backbone.

Drinking coffee has undeniably become a part of the Filipino way of living be it from the traditional roasted rice to the expensive branded coffee products that come in tall, grande and venti sizes. No one can deny the Filipinos’ love for coffee. Studies in the United States alone found that more than half of the people (55%) in their country consume coffee creating a “loyal coffee culture.” Perhaps this is the reason why coffee shops started sprouting in the last five years. Businessmen have realized the potential of mixing not just coffee, but also the passion for coffee and the need for a space where people can just sit back and relax.

Easter and the Resurrection Sunday... A Closer Look at the Festivity

Happy Easter Sunday!
Or should I say, a meaningful Resurrection Sunday. :)

There are  contentions on the celebration of Easter. To most Roman and Orthodox Catholics, Easter is a feast that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. To other sects however, Easter is not a Christian celebration and was actually pagan in nature. Some of these Christian denominations that do not celebrate Easter are the Mormons (Seventh Day Adventist Christ) and Jehovah's Witness. To them, Easter was not mentioned in the Bible so it doesn't count as a Christian event.

Life Realities Or The 11 Rules by Bill Gates

Quite recently, I have been reading this book entitled "The New New Thing" authored by Lewis. The book talks about the development at Silicon Valley and how pretty much the Internet Age started. It is an eye opener in the sense that it capitalizes on the idea that there is so much money in the market; only takes a person's will to grab them. And to do that, this person must be willing to sacrifice a lot.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

This movie is one action packed stuff... but behind the gory scenes, I can't help but apply a Feminist reading especially at the end when 'redemption' comes at the turn of tables whereby the mothers have now full control of the water. Does it make a strong feminist message? Not so. Because it was still Max who saved the day.

MOVIE REVIEW | The Martian (2015)

The Martian (2015)

What I did find really gratifying in the movie is the light treatment. The narrative does not overcomplicate the human struggle to be left alone in a foreign land. As with the case of "Cast Away", the audience is given a chance to witness how the lone character would manage to survive. And he did survive. It was entertaining at the same time because there were songs culled from pop culture which is so easy to relate to. That strategy is so brilliant it works in movies like "Guardians of the Galaxy" & "X-Men: Days of Future Past".

MOVIE REVIEW | The Big Short (2015)

The Big Short (2015)

In the beginning, you'll wonder how come this movie has been nominated for best picture. To be honest, I thought I would fall asleep. The development of the story was really a challenge since it deals with highly technical mortgaging issues. To an average viewer, it was difficult to follow the narrative and how the link among the main characters are connected. The voice over narration did help a little but it was really confusing at the start.

MOVIE REVIEW | The Danish Girl (2015)

The Danish Girl (2015)

The movie reminded me about a discussion with a very good friend and mentor, about how transgender people see their bodies differently from the rest. While we see ourselves as what we are, trans people look at themselves as physically anomalous (sexual switched). And thereby wanting to undergo severe operations (in the case of Lily, was fatal).
